For the past couple of months we have been seeing different doctors for Lily's birthmark. We had been told that it wouldn't turn into cancer, but I had a strange feeling and wanted to have it checked out by a dermatologist. We met with a pediatric dermatologist and she said that the chances of it turning into cancer are from 0-8%. She recommended seeing a pediatric plastic surgeon. We met with two of them and they both would have it removed as well. We told Lily's pediatrician about the 0-8% chance, and she said even if it were only a 1% chance, she would have it removed too.
After long thought, conversations with family and friends, and doctors, we have decided to have it removed. She is scheduled to have surgery on September 10th. We are scared and worried for her. We think it is better to take care of it now rather than later if need be. She will have to have 2-3 surgeries to get all of it out.
